CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOVI SAD

The Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad was established by China Confucius Institute Headquarters/Office of Chinese Language Council in May 2014. The organizer is the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, and the co-organizer is Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University (ZAFU), China. Since the foundation of the Institute, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad has been its partner.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad has been committed to Chinese language teaching and the cultural communication and cooperation between China and Serbia. In addition to language courses (from A1 to B2 level), the Institute organizes various skill courses with Chinese style for college and middle school students in Serbia. Besides, the Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad is also an official Chinese language testing centre for obtaining HSK, HSKK, BCT and YCT certificates. Anyone who has registered can learn Chinese and have a closer introduction to the Chinese culture here.

At present, the Confucius Classrooms are located in Sremski Karlovci Language Gymnasium and 14 Chinese language teaching points in middle and primary schools in Belgrade and Novi Sad, having offered language learning and Chinese cultural skill training for around 1,000 students and successfully made Chinese language course into credit course in the University of Novi Sad. In 2016, the students from the Confucius Institute entered the final top ten of the Chinese Bridge for Middle School Students and won the Outstanding Online Popularity Award. In 2017, they won all the champions and runner-ups of junior and senior groups of the contest. For the last three years, the Institute has organized hundreds of activities for promoting publicity of the Confucius Institute and Chinese culture, gaining much attention from media like Xinhua, Guangming Daily, CRI Online and National television, Educational Channel and Radio-Television of Vojvodina from Serbia. Up to now, all these activities have greatly met people’s needs for Chinese learning in Vojvodina province and districts nearby with more than one million people involved.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad has organized the Chinese language tests like HSK and HSKK for several times for students from all over Serbia, Croatia and Ukraine. The students who attended these tests have all obtained good grades. In July and August every year, there are summer camps either going to China or in Serbia. Both are rich in all kinds of skill courses with Chinese style, such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese tea culture, Chinese medicine, Chinese food and so on.

Furthermore, it has made itself better known by successfully holding the International Forum for Cooperation between Serbia and China with “One Belt One Road” and “Plant’s Name in Chinese and its Culture Behind” lectures.

In September 2017, the 5th China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) Education Policy Dialogue and the 4th Meeting of China-CEECs Higher Education Institutions Consortium was held at the University of Novi Sad. With this good chance, and in order to push the Chinese language learning and cultural communication into a new stage in Serbia, the Confucius Institute at the University of Novi Sad has voluntarily offered the Chinese version of the website of the University of Novi Sad.
