Recognition of a foreign higher education document is a procedure which grants its holder the right to continue his/her education at one of the faculties of the University of Novi Sad, and the University of Novi Sad itself.
The procedure of recognition of a foreign higher education document for the purpose of further education is initiated by submitting, either via post or in person, an application for recognition of a foreign higher education document to the following address: University of Novi Sad, Central University Building (Rector's Office), 21102 Novi Sad, Dr. Zorana Đinđića 1, first floor, office 17A, every working day between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Obligatory documentation
For candidates pursuing the next level of education:
- One certified photocopy of the Diploma and the Diploma Supplement (or the Transcript of Records, if the candidate was not issued a Diploma Supplement)
- One regular photocopy of the above-mentioned certified documents
For candidates pursuing the ongoing level of education:
- One certified photocopy of the Certificate proving part of the study programme already achieved, with the list of passed exams
- One certified photocopy of the high school degree (i.e. previously finished education level)
- One regular photocopy of the above-mentioned certified document
If the above-mentioned documents are issued in a country with which the Republic of Serbia has a bilateral agreement on mutual exemption of public documents from legalisation, it is not necessary for them to be legalised or to have the certificate of Apostille. Those are the following countries: Republic of Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Cyprus, Hungary, Republic of North Macedonia, Mongolia, Romania, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Republic of Turkey, Republic of Croatia, Republic of Slovenia, Slovak Republic, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Republic of Poland, Republic of France, Republic of Austria, and Republic of Bulgaria.
If the above-mentioned documents are issued in a country that is a signatory of the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (“Apostille Convention”), and the Republic of Serbia does not have, with that country, a bilateral agreement on mutual exemption of public documents from legalisation, it is necessary for the documents to have the certificate of Apostille, issued by the authorities of the country from which the documents originate from. For all other countries with which the Republic of Serbia does not have a bilateral agreement on mutual exemption of public documents from legalisation and which are not signatories of the “Apostille Convention”, full legalisation of public documents is required. Candidates are not obligated to translate higher education documents acquired in: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Croatia and Montenegro, under the condition that these documents were issued in the official language of the respective countries, unless it is not specifically requested by a competent authority during the evaluation and recognition procedure.
If the official study programme is in English, its translation into Serbian is not needed.
Recognition fee for domestic and foreign citizens is 20,000.00 RSD (twenty thousand dinars) - (Payment instructions)
Republic administrative fee for academic recognition of foreign higher education documents is 11,480.00 RSD (eleven thousand four hundred and eighty dinars) - (Payment instructions)
Note: All bank transaction fees are at the expense of the person submitting the request and they are not included in the fees. Please check your bank’s transaction fees prior to making the payment, so as to avoid them being deducted from the amount that needs to be covered for the recognition process.
Additional information
Higher education public document issued in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia until 27 April 1992, in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro until 16 June 2006, and in the Republic of Srpska do not fall under the recognition procedure of foreign higher education documents and have the same legal effect as public documents that are issued in the Republic of Serbia.
