LECTURE ON GENDER AND DIVERSITY IN SMART TRANSPORT

On 12^th November 2021, the University of Novi Sad hosted a lecture on gender and diversity in smart transport and their application in the field of transport in urban metropolises throughout Europe. This contemporary subject was introduced by the distinguished guest, Prof. Dr. Hilda Rømer Christensen from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, during the public lecture “Gender Smart Mobility and Diversity in Transport. Concepts, Methods, Practices”.

On this occasion, Professor Rømer Christensen was received by the Vice-Rector for Education and Student Activities Prof. Dr. Đorđe Herceg. The meeting was also attended by Assistant Professor Karolina Lendak-Kabok from the Faculty of Philosophy, who is also a coordinator of the University Centre for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies and Research (UCIMSI) and the Doctoral Academic Study Programme – Gender Studies at UNS. The meeting offered an insight into the differences between the organizational approaches of Gender Studies at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Novi Sad, and also included a brief discussion about an idea to organize a joint research on gender differences in STEM sciences which could be realized through cooperation between the two universities.

The scientific lecture of Professor Rømer Christensen gave a detailed presentation of a Professor’s specific expertise which has been focused on application of gender and diversity (age, class, ethnic background, invalidity) in the field of smart transport. The lecture gave an in-depth view of gender and diversity in smart transport as one of the most important issues in urban metropolises in Europe, with a mention of new challenges and opportunities in smart transport and mobility planning politics, in general.

Furthermore, Professor Christensen showed how gender and diversity are intertwined with concepts and different forms of practices of smart mobility in politics, planning and innovation, with the examples of shared mobility in Europe, entrepreneurship and gender-based innovation. The idea of gender smart mobility, as an example of future transport planning and mobility practices, was also presented.
