Prof. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar, PhD, Full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad

Prof. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar was born on September 26, 1972 in Vršac.

In 1995 she graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Novi Sad and acquired the title of teacher of English language and literature. In 2000 she received her master’s degree in linguistics from the Department of English at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. She obtained her doctoral degree in Linguistics at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad in 2009.

She has been employed at the Department of English at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad since April 1, 1996, first as a junior teaching assistant (1996-2000), then as a teaching assistant (2000-2009), and as a language instructor (2009). Since 2009 she has held teaching positions (Assistant professor 2009-2014, Associate professor 2014-2019, Full professor since 2019).

Dr. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar’s professional interest lies in both theoretical and applied linguistics, primarily in the domains of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, lexicology and lexicography of English, Serbian and Hungarian, EFL teaching, and English-Serbian, English-Hungarian and Serbian-Hungarian contrastive linguistics. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Generative Syntax, Communicative Competence, Information Structure, Contrastive Syntax of English and Serbian and Left Periphery of the Clause.

In addition to her native Hungarian and Serbian, she speaks English and can communicate in Spanish and German.

Since 2011 she has been a member of the Electoral Council of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, since 2015 a permanent external reviewer of projects of the State Agency for Research of the Republic of Slovenia (ARRS). She is the founder and chair of the scientific board of the international workshop Psycholinguistic, neurolinguistic and clinical linguistic research, held annually at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, as well as the founder and president of the organizing committee of the International Spring School of Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics and Clinical Linguistics, which was first held in April 2019 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. She is a member of several scholarly and professional associations, including the Society for Applied Linguistics of Serbia, the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE), the Association of English Studies of Serbia (SASE), the Association for Anglo-American Studies of Serbia (UASS), the Association for American Studies in Southeast Europe (AAEESS) and the European Association for American Studies (EAAS). She was a reviewer of English textbooks at the Institute for Improvement of Education of the Republic of Serbia (2011-2019), head examiner for granting licences to teachers of English as a foreign language under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia (2012-2013), and since 2012 she has served as the head examiner for granting licences to teachers of English as a foreign language under the auspices of the Provincial Secretariat for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Communities AP Vojvodina.

She was the project leader of “The use of the mother tongue in social media as a factor influencing the ethnolinguistic vitality of Hungarians in Vojvodina” (2019-2020) and “Using dictionaries in teaching English for specific purposes in tertiary education” (2017-2018), both funded by the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education and Scientific Research of AP Vojvodina. She was also a researcher on two projects funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, “Languages ​​and Cultures in Time and Space” (2011-2020) and “Interpretating the terms of present-day linguistic theories and their rendering into Serbian” (2003-2005), on the bilateral project between the University of Novi Sad and the University of Osijek entitled “Hedging, Stance and Engagement in Novice EFL Researchers’ Academic Writing” (2019-2021) and on the TEMPUS project “Reforming Foreign Language Studies in Serbia (ReFless)” (2011-2013).

Dr. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar has authored three monographs: Sentential focus in English and Serbian (2011), Exploring Communicative Competence in English as a Foreign Language. A Student’s Resource Book (2019), and Angol és szerb nyelvű attitűdök a vajdasági magyar tannyelvű középiskolások körében (Attitudes toward English and Serbian among secondary school pupils in Vojvodina with Hungarian as the language of instruction, 2020, co-authored with E. Kovács Rác), as well as nearly 100 scholarly papers published in high-ranking domestic and foreign journals and edited volumes and seven papers of the M20 category. She has presented the results of her research at nearly 70 domestic and foreign conferences. So far, she has co-edited six volumes (English Studies Today: Prospects and Perspectives, 2014; Studies in Language and Mind 1, 2016; Serbian Language in Contemporary Linguistic Theory, 2016; Studies in Language and Mind 2, 2018; Studies in Language and Mind 3, 2019; Aspects of Transnationality in American Literature and American English, 2020). She has acted as a reviewer of several monographs and a large number of papers in national and international journals, including System, Poznan Studies in Contemporary Linguistics, Jezikoslovlje, Filolog, Zbornik Matice srpske za filologiju i lingvistiku, Godišnjak Filozofskog fakulteta u Novom Sadu, Facta Universitatis: Series Linguistics and Literature, ESP Today, Metodički vidici, Létünk, Hungarológiai Közlemények, and others.

She was a member of the defence committee for numerous master’s theses and doctoral dissertations (including two theses at Goethe University in Frankfurt and one at the University of Groningen). She has supervised 24 successfully defended master’s theses and two doctoral dissertations, and is currently supervising 5 doctoral dissertations.
