The University of Novi Sad officially marked the 56th anniversary of its founding.
On this special occasion, the University of Novi Sad held a joint session of its Senate and Council, which was followed by the ceremony of awarding an honorary doctoral degree and promoting new professors emeriti of the University.
The honorary doctorate in legal sciences was awarded to Dr. Christian von Bar, full professor at the Osnabrück University, and Founder and Director of the European Legal Studies Institute. The title of professor emeritus was awarded to Dr. Nikola Grujić, full professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Ilija Ćosić, full professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences and Dr. Bojan Srđević, full professor at the Faculty of Agriculture.
The official ceremony was followed by the performance of the Accordion Orchestra of the Academic Cultural and Art Society „Sonja Marinković“, conducted by professor Goran Penić. The Orchestra was proclaimed winner of the top category at the World Music Festival 2013 in Innsbruck (Austria) and is considered to be one of the leading orchestras of its type on the international scene. The musical part of the programme was also marked by the performance of the University of Novi Sad’s choir, led by Dr. Bogdan Đaković, professor at the Academy of Arts.

Also present were Prof. Dr. Dragan Stanić, President of Matica Srpska, Academician Vladimir Kostić, President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Prof. Dr. Zorana Lužanin, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Prof. Dr. Zoran Milošević, Secretary for Higher Education and Research of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, as well as mayors of four University cities: Mr. Miloš Vučević, Mayor of Novi Sad, Ms. Dušanka Golubović, Mayor of Sombor, Mr. Bogdan Laban, Mayor of Subotica, and Mr. Duško Radišić, Deputy-Mayor of Zrenjanin.
