The European Commission has adopted a decision on awarding the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education to the University of Novi Sad, after a successful evaluation of the application by the University of Novi Sad, submitted on March 20th, 2018.
From the perspective of the Republic of Serbia becoming a Programme country, the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education was a pre-requisite for future participation of the University of Novi Sad in the largest European programme for financing of projects in the field of higher education and academic mobility – Erasmus+.
Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 – ECHE
The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education describes the basic principles that each higher education institution should respect when applying for project funding, or when carrying out the project activities, in the framework of the whole Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission.
By receiving the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, the institution confirms that its participation in the Erasmus+ programme represents its own strategy of modernization and internationalization. The aim of the Erasmus Charter is to improve the quality of academic mobility, university and faculty services and capacities for coordination of international projects, and to serve as a mechanism to evaluate and improve the activities of the higher education institutions in this domain as well.
Principles of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education
By participating in the Erasmus+ programme, a university and its constituencies undertake to respect the basic principles of the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education:
- The principle of non-discrimination of domestic and foreign students and staff participating in the mobility;
- The principle of ensuring full recognition of mobility period, ECTS, grades and results obtained during the mobility (on the basis of the learning agreements concluded beforehand between students, home institution and foreign partner), and inclusion of those information in the Diploma Supplement;
- The principle of charging no fees, i.e. an exemption from the fees of tuition, enrollment, taking exams, access to laboratories and libraries for foreign exchange students during the whole period of the credit mobility and regardless of the length of the credit mobility.
Furthermore, the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education determines all conditions that each higher education institution shall fulfill when organizing the incoming and outgoing mobility, and when participating in the projects funded by the EU programme as well.
