At the 22nd session, held May 14, 2021, the Council of the University of Novi Sad elected Prof. Dr. Dejan Madić, full professor at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, as the new rector of the University of Novi Sad. Professor Madić will take office on October 1, 2021, serving for the three-year mandate until September 30th, 2024. The newly elected rector has been a member of the current University leadership, serving as the Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
With the election of the new rector, the Council also elected a new team of vice-rectors: Prof. Dr. Đorđe Herceg, full professor at the Faculty of Sciences (for the position of the Vice-Rector for Education and Student Activities), Prof. Dr. Nikola Jorgovanović, full professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences (Vice-Rector for Science and Art), Prof. Dr. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar, full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy (Vice-Rector for International Affairs), and Prof. Dr. Artur Bjelica, full professor at the Faculty of Medicine (Vice-Rector for Finances and Organization).
Professor Dejan Madić was born March 6th, 1966, in Novi Sad. He started his academic and scientific career at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education in 1991, first starting as the teaching assistant trainee, followed by the positions of teaching assistant (1995-2000), assistant professor (2000-2005), associate professor (2006-2011), and full professor (from 2011). The narrower scientific field of his research is focused on basic scientific disciplines in sports and physical education, and above all on the study and analysis of physical activity (physical exercise) and its impact on humans (morphological characteristics, motor abilities, cognitive abilities, conative characteristics, sociological characteristics and functional abilities), with special emphasis on the development of children and youth, as well as on improving the quality of life of adults and the elderly. In addition to the subjects he teaches at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, he is also engaged as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad. At the home faculty, he served as Vice-Dean for Education, and later on as the Dean of the Faculty for two consecutive terms. He was a member of various professional and governing bodies at the University and the Faculty. During his professional career, he led several sports organizations at the national level (Gymnastics Federation of Serbia, University Sports Federation of Serbia) and was a member of various international organizations. He is the Vice President of the Main Board for Sociology, Psychology, Pedagogy and Philosophy of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. He is a representative of Serbian universities in the Board of Directors of the Association of Universities of the Adriatic-Ionian Region (UNIADRION) and a member of the European Non-governmental Sports Organization (ENGSO), Working Group for Child and Youth Sports.
