THE GREEN LIGHT FOR THE EUGLOH ALLIANCE

Published: 05 October 2022

The European university consortium EUGLOH that gathers nine partner institutions including the University of Novi Sad, received the official confirmation from the European Commission to continue its mission to further develop its interdisciplinary activities dedicated to global health and mobility of students and researchers in Europe, expanding its impact for another four years.

According to the results of the 2022 call for the European Universities initiative published by the European Commission in July 2022, 16 existing European Universities will continue to receive support, and four new alliances will be able to start their cooperation. Together with 24 alliances selected in 2020, a total of 44 European Universities now involve 340 higher education institutions in capital cities and remote regions of 31 countries.

During its next phase – EUGLOH 2.0 – the Alliance will gain 4 new partners to become a consortium of 9 higher education institutions committed to creating an integrated campus with a focus on global health.

The Rector of the University of Novi Sad Prof. Dr. Dejan Madić officially presented this information during the University Senate Session held in September 2022. Rector Madić used the opportunity to inform the representatives of UNS faculties and institutes about the main goal of the EUGLOH Alliance – improvement of existing cooperation between the partner universities through joining their resources together in tackling various social challenges regarding the global health issues more efficiently. The main activities are announced to focus on development of innovative pilot programmes of interdisciplinary studies in the field of global health, creation of multicultural and inclusive campus for students and staff, boosting the mobility of students, teachers and researchers through a wide range of physical, virtual and hybrid educational programmes, and strengthening cooperation between higher education and research institutions with local economy in order to boost the employability of students.

The list of members of EUGLOH Alliance include eminent HEIs from Europe, including the original five partner institution – Université Paris-Saclay (France), Lund University (Sweden), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany), Universidade do Porto (Portugal) and University of Szeged (Hungary); as well as four new partners – University of Alcalá (Spain), Universität Hamburg (Germany), University of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia) and Tromsø University - The Arctic University of Norway (Norway).

The goal of European Union initiative to form the European University Alliances is to create strategic partnerships that will strengthen higher education and boost cooperation between the universities in Europe. Through the EUGLOH Alliance, students and staff will have more opportunities for cooperation and the mobility of undergraduate, master and PhD students, as well as for the mobility of academic and administrative staff, with the vision to create integrated European campus for this large international academic community.

The concept of global health largely overcomes the traditional field of health protection, and also includes factors such as the future of medicine, climate change, environmental protection challenges, preservation of biodiversity, digital health concept, etc. These topics are essential starting points for further cooperation, growth and development of partner universities gathered in the EUGLOH Alliance.
