The University of Novi Sad and the University of Szeged jointly organized a workshop on the occasion of the University of Novi Sad becoming a member of the European University Alliance for Global Health – EUGLOH. The delegation of the University of Szeged led by the Rector Prof. Dr. László Rovó visited the University of Novi Sad where the joint workshop was held on the 2nd February 2022.
The guests were welcomed by the Rector Prof. Dr. Dejan Madić, who said that the University of Novi Sad has been intensively engaged in international activities focusing on finding a suitable consortium of European universities to join. “The University of Novi Sad received several offers from existing European university consortiums that have recognized our institution as a suitable partner. We have gladly accepted one invitation that came from a consortium we found to be of high quality and reputation – EUGLOH,” Rector explained.
“It is also important to say that during this procedure we have received a very strong support from a close and friendly institution – the University of Szeged. During our first meeting that was held in Szeged, the leaderships of both universities already started to plan joint activities within our ongoing and future projects,” Professor Madić stressed on this occasion.
The EUGLOH network was founded as a strategic partnership between Université Paris-Saclay, Lund University, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Universidade do Porto and University of Szeged. More recently, the Alliance welcomed four new partner institutions – University of Alcalá, Universität Hamburg, University of Novi Sad and Tromsø University - The Arctic University of Norway.
“The very name of this Alliance is very clear and speaks about the goal that is ahead of us. We would like a close cooperation with the University of Novi Sad in all significant scientific fields,” the Rector of the University of Szeged Prof. Dr. László Rovó explained during the visit.
Following the introductory presentation given by Rector Rovo, the plenary part of the joint workshop also included reports from Prof. Dr. Gabor Szabo who spoke about the new model in the Hungarian Higher Education and its implications for this university, as well as the presentation by Dr. Judit Fendler about the role of the University of Szeged in regional development. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, the Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning, spoke about the previous three-year experience within the EUGLOH, and more detailed information about the Programme for Western Balkans were given by Prof. Dr. József Hajdú.
The programme also included six parallel thematic working groups that focused on the potential cooperation between the member institutions of both universities in the specific fields, such as medicine, pharmacy, economy and management, agriculture and participation in the Western Balkans Programme.
The workshop was attended by numerous representatives from the University of Novi Sad, including the Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Sabina Halupka-Rešetar, Prof. Dr. Nikola Jorgovanović, Prof. Dr. Đorđe Herceg and Prof. Dr. Artur Bjelica, as well as the representatives from theUniversity of Novi Sad and the University of Szeged member faculties and institutes.
With its interdisciplinary character, the goal of the EUGLOH Alliance is to actively contribute to a better understanding of social challenges connected to global health issues, providing answers on various questions in the field of public health and social welfare by connecting a variety of disciplines – medicine and health sciences, natural sciences (biology, physics, chemistry, informatics, mathematics, environmental protection…), management, economics, social sciences and humanities, engineering, sport sciences and other disciplines.
