The University of Novi Sad student team “Mi” from the Faculty of Technical Sciences won the first place in the European Championship in Robotics – EUROBOT 2022. The competition was held in La Roche-Sur-Yon, France, from 25th to 28th May 2022, and welcomed over 100 teams from France and 21 teams from 11 other countries.
The main theme of 2022 competition was Age of Bots. The robots were tasked to solve several assignments with two robots per team, including collection and sorting of ore samples, replacement of the statue, mining of ore with prediction of points won and showing precise movement on the field. Within 100 second-long match, the teams had to score as many points as possible. All robots were fully autonomous, equipped with mini-computers, sensors, actuators and mechanisms designed and built by the students themselves.
The members of the winning team “Mi” were second- and fifth-year students of Mechatronics: Aleksandar Kičić, Slaven Petković, Srđan Apostolović, Aleksa Stevanović, Andrija Mirosavljev, Aleksandar Lalić, Miloš Džudović, Teodor Marić, Stefanos Lalić, Saša Vukadinović and Stefan Mirković. After five rounds, this team ranked second and advanced to the next stage of competition. They beat the team „Jurassic Bot” from Belgium in the quarter finals, the team “Eseo – Angers” in the semi-finals, and the team “Tim Dynamics” from Austria in the competition finals. Beside the team “Mi”, the Faculty of Technical Sciences was also represented by two other teams “+381 Robotics” and “Memristor”. Their hard work was supervised and carefully guided by their mentor Prof. Dr. Mirko Raković from the Chair of Mechatronics, Robotics and Automatization, Faculty of Technical Sciences.
The preparations for EUROBOT usually start in September already and all the teams work hard over a six-month period to build and develop their robots for the competition. Great results achieved by the teams from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in recent years came as a result of continuous and dedicated work of generations of students as well as the team of professors and assistants who engage actively in achieving a high standard of studies and equipment for development of robots.
This was the 20th time for the students of the Faculty of Technical Sciences to take part in EUROBOT competitions. The 2022 success comes as a confirmation of knowledge and skills the students get during their studies in the field of Robotics at this faculty.
